AUX activator for BMW CCC

Plenty of E60 and E63 cars left the factory with the AUX pins in the harness but no AUX line in the Entertainment menu, so a phone plugged into the socket plays nothing. This module activates that missing source in one pass — no coding laptop, no dealer visit, no software update. One unit activates one vehicle.

Vehicle system: BMW CCC — E60 / E61 / E63 / E64

AUX activator module for BMW CCC head units, showing the activation button and the two-pin plug
Read this before you order. One activator activates one vehicle. The code is consumed the first time it is used, so a unit that has already been used on a car cannot be returned, resold or moved to the next car in the workshop. Order one per vehicle you are unlocking.

CCC is the first iDrive head unit, fitted across the E60 / E61 5 Series and the E63 / E64 6 Series. The connector on the back of the unit carries left, right and ground for an auxiliary input, and on many cars those pins are wired — what is missing is the software switch that makes the source appear in the menu. The car looks like it has no AUX at all: no line in Entertainment, and the 3.5 mm socket, if there is one, does nothing.

This module writes that switch once, from outside the head unit. Plug it in, press and hold, wait for the AUX line to appear in the Entertainment list, then shut the car down in the right order and the setting is stored in the car. From then on the vehicle has a working factory AUX source and the module goes back in its box — it is a tool, not a permanent part of the install.

Who buys it

  • Importers and distributors — a low-value add-on that solves a question every CCC owner asks.
  • Workshops doing CCC interface work — the same screen is already off the dashboard when you fit a CarPlay interface, so the AUX activation adds a few minutes to a job you are doing anyway.
  • BMW specialists and breakers — unlocking head units that came from a car where AUX was never enabled.

It is not a Bluetooth receiver, not a streaming box and not a CarPlay solution. If the car needs phone integration with a screen, that is the CCC CarPlay interface — and the two work side by side on the same car.

In the box

What arrives

One box per vehicle. Nothing else is needed — no adapter to buy separately, no software to download.

Procedure

Eight steps, one pass

The order matters more than the speed. Do not connect anything with the ignition on, and do not restart the car before the P-gear light has gone out — that is the step people skip, and it is the step that wastes the unit.

1

Power off, screen out

Ignition off. Remove the two screws above the screen, pry the trim loose and take the factory monitor out.

2

Seat the harness

Unplug the head unit and seat the activator harness fully — you should feel the connector click. A half-seated plug reads as a failed activation.

3

Check the LED first

Start the car, open Entertainment, then look at the module. The LED must be off. On or flashing means the code is not being accepted — stop here.

4

Hold until AUX appears

Press and hold the button. When the LED comes on and the AUX line appears in the Entertainment list, release.

5

Keep it connected, wait 5 s

Leave the module plugged in and wait five seconds. Pulling the plug here is the second way to lose an activation.

6

Shut down and lock

Switch the engine off and lock the car. Wait for the P-gear indicator light to go out before touching anything.

7

Restart and confirm

Start the car again. If AUX Audio is still listed in Entertainment, the activation is stored in the car.

8

Test, then refit

Play something through the 3.5 mm lead before you put the trim back. Once audio is confirmed, refit the screen and the two screws.

Download the full illustrated sheet before you start: BMW CCC AUX activator installation guide (PDF, 12 steps). It is the same sheet that ships in the box, so you can forward it to an installer.

No socket in the console

Adding the 3.5 mm port

Plenty of E60 cars were ordered without the AUX socket, so there is nowhere to plug the phone even after the menu entry exists. The port lead in the kit fixes that.

1

Open the console

Pry out the air-conditioning trim strip, remove the panel screws and take out the storage box panel.

2

Release the head unit

Remove the screws holding the head unit so you can reach the harness behind it.

3

Wire the three AUX pins

Take out the original harness and plug the three AUX wires into it in the positions shown in the guide — left, right and ground.

4

Fit the jack and test

Route the port lead to the console, fit the socket, plug in a phone and play. If audio comes out, the job is done.

Fitment

Compatibility

Covered by head unit, not by model year.

ModelChassis and years
5 SeriesE60 / E61 — 2004-2010, CCC head unit
6 SeriesE63 / E64 — 2004-2010, CCC head unit

The later CIC unit looks different on screen and is not covered by this activator. Send a photo of the main menu and we will confirm before you buy — a wrong unit is a wasted activation, not just a return.

Before you order

AUX activator questions

The things importers and installers ask us most about this one.

No. The activation is consumed on the first vehicle it is used on, which is why the unit is priced and packed per car rather than per workshop. If you are quoting a fleet, count the cars, not the jobs.
No. It is a hand-held tool: it plugs in for the procedure and comes back out when the AUX line is stored. What stays in the car is the AUX wiring, and the port lead if you fitted a socket.
That means the code is not being accepted. In practice it is almost always a connector that is not fully seated, or a head unit that is not a CCC unit. Stop, take a short video of the plug and the screen, and send it to us before you try again.
None of the three. There is no laptop in this job, no dealer appointment and no firmware to load. The sequence on this page is the whole procedure.
The activation is stored in the car, not in the tool — that is exactly why the tool is only needed once per vehicle. If the AUX line ever disappears, tell us what was done to the car before you reach for a second activator.
Then it does not need this product. Check Entertainment before you order: if AUX is already listed and a phone plays through the socket, there is nothing to activate.
Yes, and that is how our own video was filmed: unit out of the car, powered up, harness connected, button pressed. Same result — that head unit gets the AUX source. Useful when a unit arrives from a breaker and you want to check it before it goes into a car.
Because the activation is spent. Once a unit has been used on a car it cannot be reset for the next one, so we cannot take it back into stock and we do not pretend otherwise. Before dispatch we confirm the head unit with you, and during the job our technician is available on a video call.
